Optional Bosses

Persona 4 Golden's optional bosses are the Reaper, summoned by opening 20 chests on one trip, Margaret of the Velvet Room, fought only in New Game Plus, and a new Shadow in each cleared dungeon on a return visit. Atlus has not said whether Persona 4 Revival keeps them.

Persona 4 Golden's optional bosses are of three kinds: a new Shadow that waits in each cleared dungeon on a return visit, such as the Contrarian King in Yukiko's Castle; the Reaper, who comes after the party opens 20 chests on one trip into the TV and wants at least level 75 (Screen Rant); and Margaret, the Velvet Room attendant, who can be fought only in New Game Plus, per TheGamer. Each of the last two has a trophy. Persona 4 Revival remakes Golden, but Atlus has not said whether any of these fights return, as of Nov 3, 2026.

Return-visit bosses in each dungeon

Go back into a cleared dungeon by talking to its owner in the TV World, and a new boss can stand where the old one did (TheGamer). TheGamer advises doing each one for a weapon made for that friend (TheGamer).

Heaven's return-visit boss is not covered by the editorial guides read for this page. TheGamer's guide to the Intolerant Officer is unclear on its weakness: the table shows electric, the text says ice and wind do extra damage. Each fight's details are on its dungeon's page.

The Reaper

How to summon it. The Reaper appears after 20 chests are opened on one expedition into the Midnight Channel; opening a golden chest resets the count, and rattling chains warn it is on the way (Screen Rant). For the trophy, TheGamer opens 20 regular chests, not golden ones, then agrees to open the last one when the game asks (TheGamer).

The fight. It is immune to light and dark, takes normal damage from everything else, and has a move that knocks out a party member in one hit. Screen Rant advises at least level 75 and maxed Social Links for stronger Personas, and gives each member a job:

Margaret

0:39 Margaret, Igor's assistant in the Velvet Room, can also be fought in Persona 4 Golden. TheGamer's trophy guide puts three conditions on it (TheGamer): The clip is BuffMaister's fight in Persona 4 Golden on PC at Very Hard.

Play New Game Plus; she cannot be fought on a first run.
Be on the way to the true ending, with the optional bosses beaten before January ends.
Have her Empress Social Link at rank 10.

Beating her unlocks "One Who Has Proven Their Power". Her link is on Margaret Social Link: maxing it gives the Spiral Brooch, which lets the protagonist fuse Isis (RPG Site), and opens the fight (TheGamer).

No editorial guide read for this page gives Margaret's level, affinities, skills or a turn-by-turn plan as of Nov 3, 2026. Whether the PS2 Persona 4 had a Margaret fight is not confirmed by an editorial source read here.

Optional bosses in Persona 4 Revival

Atlus has not said whether Revival keeps the return-visit bosses, the Reaper or Margaret's fight, as of Nov 3, 2026. Revival's new battle features, Baton Pass and Prime Time among them (Atlus), would change how these fights play if they return; see Persona 4 Revival Battle System.
