Protagonist

Persona 4's protagonist is a second-year high school student who moves to Inaba to live with his uncle; the player names him, and the anime and later media call him Yu Narukami. In Persona 4 Revival his first Persona is still Izanagi, and he is voiced by Nazeeh Tarsha in English and Daisuke Namikawa in Japanese.

Persona 4's protagonist is a second-year high school student sent from the city to spend a year with his uncle, detective Ryotaro Dojima, in the rural town of Inaba, where a string of murders draws him into the TV world and wakes his first Persona, Izanagi. The player types in his name; Persona 4: The Animation and later media name him Yu Narukami, and guide sites such as TheGamer use that name for him in Persona 4 Golden (TheGamer). In Persona 4 Revival the player still names him and his starting Persona is still Izanagi; he is voiced by Nazeeh Tarsha in English and by Daisuke Namikawa, his Japanese voice in the earlier Persona 4 games, and he speaks mainly in battle, "not in most of the event conversations", RPG Site reported on Jul 3, 2026.

Who is the protagonist?

SEGA's Revival page sums him up as a student sent to his uncle's place in the countryside who, facing a serial murder case, "awakens the power of Persona". He leads the Investigation Team, and his Social Links with the people of Inaba are the heart of the game: ranking up a link adds bonuses when he fuses Personas of its arcana in the Velvet Room, and maxing it unlocks that arcana's strongest Persona (TheGamer). His bond with the team itself is the Fool arcana, the Investigation Team Social Link. His five social stats, from Knowledge to Expression, gate many of those links (Social Stats). The clip is Atlus's Jun 18, 2026 Revival broadcast on Social Links and social stats.

Izanagi and his Personas

Izanagi is the Persona he awakens at the start of the first TV world area, the Twisted Shopping District, in Persona 4 Golden (TheGamer); getting it is the first achievement, "The Other Self". In the first fight, against Shadow Yosuke, he fights alone, and Izanagi's Zio knocks the electric-weak Shadow down while its wind attacks hit Izanagi's weakness. Unlike his friends, who each keep one Persona that evolves, the protagonist carries several, switches between them in battle, gains new ones after battles, and fuses them into stronger ones in the Velvet Room (Atlus). His strongest options are on Best Personas and Izanagi-no-Okami, and the rules on Persona Fusion. The clip is GameSpot's Aug 2026 footage of a pre-release build of Persona 4 Revival.

The protagonist in Persona 4 Revival

Revival keeps him a mostly silent lead. RPG Site's report on his Jul 3, 2026 trailer says he speaks during battles and not in most event conversations, so story scenes play through the other characters. Nazeeh Tarsha takes the English role: in Persona 4 and Golden, Johnny Yong Bosch voiced both the protagonist and Adachi, and in Revival Bosch keeps only Adachi (Kotaku). Hands-on previews of a pre-release build at Gamescom 2026 noted far more accurate sword hitboxes in dungeons than in Golden (GamesRadar+, Sep 3, 2026). The new battle actions he leads, such as Baton Pass and Prime Time, are on Persona 4 Revival Battle System.
