What's New in Persona 4 Revival

Persona 4 Revival remakes Persona 4 Golden with Marie in it, keeps the story as it was, and adds full voice acting for every Social Link, new seasonal events, Location Episodes with Aika Nakamura, a 3D Okina City, new battle moves and rearranged music. Atlus has not said item by item which other Golden extras it keeps.

Persona 4 Revival is a full remake of Persona 4 Golden, not of the 2008 PS2 game, so Golden's additions, Marie first among them, are in it, and Atlus says it keeps the original storyline as it is while renewing everything around it. What Atlus has listed as new: the main story and every Social Link fully voiced, new seasonal events, Location Episodes that tour Inaba with Aika Nakamura, Okina City explorable in 3D, four new battle mechanics (Guard Action, Send Flying, Baton Pass and Prime Time), rearranged and new music, a new interface, and new anime cutscenes by MAPPA. It adds no romance with Yosuke. Everything here comes from Atlus, SEGA, the store pages and press previews of pre-release builds, as of Nov 3, 2026; the finished game has not been reviewed. In the clip Kazuhisa Wada says the team kept the original's atmosphere while updating the interface, battle pacing and dungeons.

Is Persona 4 Revival a remake of Golden?

Yes. The official site's headline is "A FULL REMAKE OF PERSONA 4 GOLDEN," and SEGA Japan describes a remake of Persona 4 Golden with enhanced graphics, UI, combat and cutscenes, plus quality-of-life changes and added content. That is the opposite choice from Persona 3 Reload, which remade the original Persona 3 and sold the FES epilogue later as DLC. Kazuhisa Wada, Director at P-Studio, explained why: Marie's story was "so inherent to the main story" of Golden that it could not be split off. With Persona 3 Reload, the team's first big remake, he said they had not known how much they could handle; this time it was time to put all the effort into a full remake.

Fans had guessed as much from the June 2025 teaser, which ended on Golden's advantage battle theme "Time to Make History" and showed a covered scooter at the Dojima house, both Golden-only.

Golden content and Marie

Marie, Golden's amnesiac Velvet Room resident and Aeon Social Link, returns with her outings. Wada said Golden introduced her in a "very obvious" way, and that in Revival "she needs to be here from the beginning", with a more natural entrance. RPG Site's preview build included Golden's additions and, so far, did not diverge much from Golden (pre-release build, August 2026). The clip is GameSpot's Aug 2026 footage of a pre-release build: Marie meets Yosuke on an outing, and her Aeon Social Link begins.

What Atlus has not done is list the rest. As of Nov 3, 2026 no Atlus page names the winter epilogue, the Jester Social Link, the scooter trips, the beach or the ski trip as being in Revival. "A full remake of Persona 4 Golden" implies them, and the teaser's scooter points that way, but none is confirmed item by item. The Adachi Social Link and Hollow Forest pages say what Atlus has and has not said about those two.

New events and Location Episodes

Atlus Japan lists new events: seasonal events, and events that show more of each character's appeal. Wada also said Revival has content that was not in Golden, without detailing it.

The one new feature with a face is the Location Episode. Aika Nakamura, the daughter of the family that runs the Aiya restaurant, first appeared in Persona 4: The Animation and is only mentioned in Golden. In Revival she tours Inaba with the protagonist; you collect photos of the town's past, and giving them to friends opens special events where each looks back on memories. The English broadcast in September 2026 called her a new Social Link, and on Sep 25, 2026 Atlus West corrected it: "Aika is indeed a Location Episode Character and not a Social Link." How many Location Episodes there are, and whether they grant Personas as Persona 3 Reload's Linked Episodes did, Atlus has not said. The clip is Atlus's Sep 19, 2026 broadcast, which introduces Aika as a Social Link character and then the Location Episodes.

Every Social Link scene is now voiced, which PCGamesN notes they were not before. Atlus Japan says all voices are newly recorded, for the main story, every Community (Social Link) event and the new events. Wada told Anime Corner the links are unchanged in nature, and in August he and art director Akane Kabayashi told PCGamesN that "little bits and pieces" were added to some. No new link has been announced. The protagonist still speaks mainly in battle. See Persona 4 Social Links for the links as Golden has them. The clip is Atlus's Jun 18, 2026 broadcast.

Battle

The core is Golden's: hit a weakness to knock an enemy down for 1 More, knock them all down for an All-Out Attack, fuse Personas in the Velvet Room (Atlus Japan). Four mechanics are new: The clip is Atlus's Jul 2026 broadcast clip of Revival's battles.

  • Guard Action: guard a Shadow's attack in the field to stun it, then strike first or slip past.
  • Send Flying: hit a Shadow with a status ailment to knock it into another, spreading the ailment.
  • Baton Pass: during a 1 More, hand the turn to an ally to hit a different weakness.
  • Prime Time: fill a gauge for consecutive free turns that ignore resistances, ending in the finisher "Series Finale."

Details and previews' impressions are on Persona 4 Revival Battle System.

Dungeons

The dungeons keep the original's procedurally generated corridors, so this is not a hand-built redesign. GamesRadar+ found sword hits far more accurate, smashable objects that restore a little SP as in Persona 3 Reload, and a glowing path that points the way (pre-release build, September 2026); it could not tell whether the path can be turned off. The stated aim is to reduce stress as much as possible. Wada picked Heaven and Yukiko's Castle as the dungeons that gain most from modern hardware. See Persona 4 Dungeons.

Inaba and Okina City

Inaba can now be explored with a free camera in many places; Kabayashi said the team chose which spots get 360-degree control and which keep fixed angles. Okina City, a Golden addition reached by scooter, is fully explorable in 3D instead of a fixed view, and Junes has new camera work. Wada said no new locations were added. The setting stays in its own time: the team considered moving it to the present but kept it in the era when it was made, since CRT televisions and the switch from analog to digital broadcasting are part of the story.

Chie asks the protagonist if he has heard of the Midnight Channel at an outdoor food stand on Apr 13, with Yosuke beside them in an official Steam store screenshot of Persona 4 Revival Atlus and SEGA

Visuals, interface and cutscenes

Characters now have full human proportions and more expression; Shigenori Soejima said work on Persona 4: Dancing All Night helped. The interface leans harder on the TV theme, with an old television dial knob in the battle menu and a main-menu character pop-up taken from Persona 5. The anime cutscenes are all new, by MAPPA, which Wada said asked to take the project. Shadows are refined with tweaks rather than redesigned, per PC Gamer's Gamescom preview. The game runs on Unreal Engine, which the team first used for Persona 3 Reload. The clip is Atlus's Anime Expo 2026 panel: in Japanese, the team says the art and models were remade from scratch, now at full proportions.

Music

Ryota Kozuka of the Atlus Sound Team rearranged Shoji Meguro's soundtrack, with new vocals by Shiori Sasaki, and wrote new songs including the opening and the advantage battle theme "Prime Time Golden Hour Show." All vocal and battle tracks have been newly rearranged. See Persona 4 Revival Music.

Dialogue, characters and the voice cast

Wada said "the characters are all the same people", with dialogue adjusted to feel more modern. He and Kabayashi told PCGamesN they added lines where the script was unclear and cut some so each character's message lands. Some sensitive material was refined, and Yosuke's way of treating outsiders was softened, Wada told Anime Corner. The spin-offs informed the characters, with the team wanting to go deeper with Yosuke Hanamura and Kanji Tatsumi; Kotaku reports the Kanji and Naoto storylines will not change significantly.

The English cast is new except Johnny Yong Bosch, who returns as Adachi; the Japanese cast returns. See Persona 4 Revival Voice Cast.

Is there a Yosuke romance in Persona 4 Revival?

No. Wada told PC Gamer that adding Yosuke would mean doing "all the guys," which would be a great deal of extra content. The romance options are expected to follow Golden's, though Atlus has not listed them.
